The community of Special Olympics, once locally defined as "individuals with mental retardation," has grown into a worldwide partnership of developmentally disabled individuals and their non-disabled peers. Boys and girls with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics Nevada develop improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image. They grow mentally, socially and spiritually and, through their activities, develop the capacity to become economically productive participating members of society. Our athletes exhibit boundless courage and enthusiasm, enjoy the rewards of friendship and ultimately discover not only new abilities and talents but "their voices" as well.

In addition to the number of athletes registered to participate through Special Olympics, we further touch one out of every six people in the United States through our families, volunteers and supporters. This translates to hundreds of thousands of people in Southern Nevada who care deeply about people with developmental disabilities. Special Olympics Nevada is honored to partner with Speedway Children's Charities to improve the quality of life for members of our community.
