The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities hosted its third annual Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at The Cannery Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.  The evening of "Cards for Kids" raised more than $16,000 for the children of Las Vegas and southern Nevada.

 

NHRA racers Brandon Bernstein, Cory McClenathan, Greg Anderson, Dave Grubnic, Rod Fuller, Ron Capps, Morgan Lucas, Melanie Troxel, Eric Medlen, Tommy Johnson, Jr., J.R. Todd, Dave Connolly, Greg Stanfield, Jack Beckman and Steve Torrence participated in the event with fans and poker players from around the country. Kenny Sargent of SpeedFreaks also participated in the tournament, and served as master of ceremonies throughout the evening.  The Top Fuel racers set the pace for the three divisions represented with Troxel as the top NHRA finisher, placing tenth overall, while Todd took 12th.

 

Shawn Langdon of Miraloma, Calif., won the event, defeating Daniel Lipps of Honolulu, HI, for the $2,800 top prize.  Mark Melvin of Las Vegas was the winner of the "Out of Gas Award" for being the first participant to lose all their chips at the table. 

 

Speedway Children's Charities (www.speedwaycharities.org) is a non-profit foundation based in Charlotte, N.C., that distributes funds to charities and foundations providing medical, emotional and social services to children in need. 

 

Last December, the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities distributed more than $275,000 to 67 local causes which directly impact the lives of children in the Las Vegas and southern Nevada region.
